The body of a scuba diver who went missing late Sunday evening was recovered early this morning, police said.
Toronto police said they responded to a call at 7:57 p.m. Sunday for person who went missing in the water at the Humber Bay Park marina.
The diver went missing on Sunday evening at Humber Bay Park Rd. W. in the area of Park Lawn Rd. and Lake Shore Blvd.
Police spokesperson Katrina Arrogante said the diver’s body was recovered at 9:20 a.m. The incident is not considered suspicious at this time. Police say the victim is a man in his 40s.
Lake Ontario has become popular for scuba diving, particularly with beginners, and licensed divers can often be seen in the water on warm nights.
Arrogante said two people were scuba diving Sunday evening, one did not resurface. The diver who resurfaced said they believed that there wasn’t much oxygen left in the tank.
Arrogante said several crews arrived to aid in the search, including a marine unit, Toronto paramedics and multiple primary response officers.
The search for the missing diver was suspended overnight at 1:05 a.m. due to darkness, but resume at 8:30 a.m.
