Emergency crews battle large fire at Mississauga auto wrecker


Firefighters are still working on putting out a fire that broke out in an auto wrecker shop in Mississauga Thursday evening.

Mississauga Fire Services said it received a call around 7 p.m. for a fire at a commercial property near Central Pkwy W. and Wolfedale Rd. The property was later identified as Cooksville Auto Wreckers at 3402 Mavis Rd.

Peel Police said there were no reports of anyone getting injured or being trapped in the fire. Police have closed down all major roads surrounding the area and expect them to remain closed until the smoke from the fire clears.

By 9:30 p.m. Peel police said the fire was still active.

Neighbouring businesses in the area have been evacuated and police are asking residents in the area to stay inside their homes to avoid the thick smoke.

Fire crews are asking residents in the area to keep their windows and doors closed and turn off air-conditioners.

Police have shut down Mavis Rd. at Burnhamthorpe Rd. W., Central Pkwy at Wolfedale Rd. and Central Pkwy at Mavis Rd.

They said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
