Two boys aged 16 and 17 are among three males that have been arrested and charged with kidnapping a boy in Brampton, Peel Regional Police say.
In a media release, police said all three males have been charged with using an imitation firearm, weapon offences, robbery, kidnapping and assault.
On Friday at around 5:30 p.m. the victim, a 16 year-old boy from Brampton, was at the soccer centre at Sandalwood Pkwy. and Dixie Rd. in Brampton when he was approached by three males and forced into a vehicle at gunpoint and stole his cellphone.
The boy, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act due to his age, told police he attempted to run away, but couldn’t and was assaulted by the three males. Police say the boy was then driven to his home, where witnesses interrupted the offence, prompting the males then flee the area in their car.
Police said the victim did not sustain any injuries.
At 7:48 p.m. that same evening, Tej Boparai, a 20 year-old man, a 17-year-old boy from Richmond Hill and a 16-year-old boy from Scarborough were all arrested and charged.
Police said the 17-year-old male from Richmond Hill received an additional charge of Breach of Recognizance — breaching one of the conditions of his offence.
All three attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hearing on Saturday.
