The 18-year-old killed Wednesday afternoon near two Scarborough high schools has been identified as Elliott Reid-Doyle, of Toronto.
Reid-Doyle was shot just before 1:30 p.m. near Bonis Ave. and Birchmount Rd., near Sheppard Ave., police said. Emergency services found him in life-threatening condition, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
The shooting took place in the parking lot in front of a pizza shop known as a common hangout spot for high school students in the area.
Immediately after the shooting, two nearby high schools were placed on lockdown for three hours — meaning students couldn’t leave until well after the school day was done.
Det. Leslie Dunkley said Wednesday that Reid-Doyle did not appear to be a student at either of the schools.
Reid-Doyle’s death is Toronto’s 83rd homicide of the year and the second in the city in less than 24 hours. Earlier Wednesday, police identified Dwayne McMillan, 44, as the victim of a shooting near York University’s Keele campus Tuesday night.
The city’s record for annual homicides is 89, a mark set in 1991.
