Man fighting for his life after shooting on Brampton highway

A man is in critical condition in hospital after he was shot while driving his car on Highway 410 in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police were called to the area of Highway 410 near the Bovaird Drive exit just before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20. A friend of the victim called 911 to say he had been shot and is in hospital.

Police say the man was driving his grey Honda Accord along the highway when his vehicle was shot at, according to Peel police.

Detectives are still trying to pinpoint the exact area of the shooting.

Frank Alfonsi, who lives in the area, said he believed the car had “several bullet holes” but didn’t see much as it was dark outside.

The shooting victim was first taken to a local hospital but then transferred to a trauma centre, where he is listed in life-threatening condition.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for hours between Derry Road and Sandalwood Parkway for the investigation.

This is the second shooting on the highway in Peel in a week. Last Tuesday, Nov. 13, 23-year-old Jason Ramkishun of Brampton was shot dead inside a vehicle that crashed in the area of Highway 410 and Courtneypark Drive in Mississauga. Police haven’t made any arrests in either shooting and say it’s too early to determine whether the two are connected.
