Toronto police identify victim of fatal shooting on King St. W. this week

Toronto police have identified the victim of an overnight shooting in the downtown core this week.

Edwin (Chris) Humberto Velasquez, 34, of Toronto, was walking with a group of people when a suspect approached and shot him multiple times just after midnight Wednesday outside a restaurant near King St. W. and Spadina Ave.

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers responded to a call for a Shooting in the King Street West and Spadina Avenue area.

He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

A woman also walking in the area suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police said the suspect fled the area west on King in a vehicle thought to be a blue Mazda. They have released security camera images of the vehicle, as well as a YouTube video showing it. The plate on the vehicle is ATVP 407, but police said it is not registered to that vehicle.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

It was one of seven shootings throughout the city during a violent 24-hour period that left two dead and six injured.
