OTTAWA—In the wake of Jody Wilson-Raybould’s stunning testimony to the Commons justice committee Wednesday, Ottawa lawmakers requested an emergency debate Thursday evening to discuss the allegations.
Conservative and NDP MPs supported the request, which was granted by Speaker Geoff Regan. Conservative House Leader Candice Bergen requested an “urgent” debate that she stated was required as a result of Wilson-Raybould’s testimony.
“Mr. Speaker there were hours of very credible testimony given yesterday that begs this chamber discuss this issue. We are certainly at a crisis,” Bergen said. “This has caused a crisis of confidence in the prime minister, and in his cabinet, certainly in the clerk of the privy council, in the minister of finance, and in the current attorney general.”
