A five-year-old child has been found safe and her father arrested after police say he abducted her from her Markham school Tuesday afternoon.
York Region police Const. Laura Nicole told reporters police were able to act on a tip from a community member who saw the photos distributed by police.
York Region police say Soloman Jaffri, 25, took Jannah Jaffri from Armadale Public School, near McCowan Rd. and Elson St., at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday and left in a minivan taxi headed north on Coppard Ave.
Soloman Jaffri is not supposed to have access to his daughter, police said. This was something the school was not aware of Nicole told reporters on the scene.
“At the point that the father had signed her out, there was no information that the school was aware of that he was not to have access to her,” Nicole said. “So, it appears as though he came and picked up the child, from the school’s standpoint, legitimately.”
York Region District School Board spokesperson Licinio Miguelo said the school “followed appropriate protocols” and was unaware the father was not supposed to have access to the child.
