Climate activists dumped cow manure in front of Doug Ford’s office in Etobicoke on Sunday, declaring Ford’s climate action strategy a “load of crap” in a release to media.
A video of the group dumping manure on the office on Albion Road went viral on Twitter. Activists with the Hamilton chapter of Extinction Rebellion took responsibility for the action.
“We are here to deliver a message that the Ford Conservative government climate change plan is complete bull— and total crap,” said activist Cameron Topp in the release to the media. “The Ford Conservatives base their climate change strategy on lies and crackpot theories rather than scientific fact.”
In their release, the group claimed provincially apointed Joe Oliver, who leads the board of the Independent Electricity System Operator, denies “scientific facts of climate science.” They also cited the province’s cancellation of almost 800 renewable energy projects, as well their decision to cut funding for Hamilton’s Light Rail Transit system.
“The province and the City of Hamilton have invested $160 million over the last 10 years into Hamilton’s LRT and will now also pay enormous penalties to contractors who have begun work,” the group wrote. “More Hamiltonians will be forced to drive, emitting even more greenhouse gas emissions.”
The province cited ballooning costs for its LRT decision.
In September the same group blooked the Bloor Viaduct for several hours as part of an international protest to demand action on climate change, demanding the City of Toronto set concrete strategies to decrease emissions in the city.
